Nathan Sermonis is the CEO and Co-Founder of Vittoria Technology, a Cape Town–based social enterprise advancing renewable energy solutions across Sub-Saharan Africa. He is a renewable energy specialist recognised for his leadership in international collaborations and sustainable development initiatives spanning Africa, Asia, Europe, and the Americas. Before co-founding Vittoria Technology, Nathan served as a U.S. Congressional aide, think tank executive, foreign affairs analyst and science adviser. His diverse background includes expertise in non-profit and business administration, off-grid power engineering, policy analysis, project oversight and market intelligence. At Vittoria Technology, Nathan leads company strategy across product and service innovation, finance, technology and sales. He oversees initiatives such as Battery Bank Africa, the company’s pioneering “Storage-as-a-Service” model, and manages energy access consulting activities. Under his leadership, Vittoria Technology has implemented innovative clean energy projects supported by organisations including Innovate UK Energy Catalyst, Agence Française de Développement, EEP Africa, USAID/Power Africa, DOEN Foundation, Signify Foundation, Energy 4 Impact, the Bertha Centre for Social Innovation & Entrepreneurship and the SAB Foundation. Nathan has supported African mini-grid stakeholders in designing, financing and deploying renewable power systems and sustainable business models for rural communities, contributing directly to more than 30 projects in South Africa, Rwanda, Uganda, DRC, Sierra Leone, Lesotho, Mozambique, Malawi, Benin and Zambia. Nathan is completing postgraduate research at the University of Cape Town’s Faculty of Engineering, focusing on “future-proof” microgrid design in Sub-Saharan Africa. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Natural Resources from Cornell University.
