Jenna Harris

Jenna Harris is the founder and former CEO of Apollo Africa, one of South Africa’s first licensed private electricity traders. Launching Apollo at a time when private power trading did not yet exist in South Africa, she helped pioneer the new market sector – developing the commercial, legal and financial frameworks that enabled the retail of private power. Through this work, Jenna built a 5.1 GW project pipeline and introduced novel risk-managed portfolio structures and electricity-trading products that have shaped the country’s evolving market design. With nearly 20 years of experience across the gas, power and renewables sectors, she continues to advise utilities, developers and financiers on market reform, innovative business models and investment strategies driving Africa’s energy transition. Her work extends well beyond entrepreneurship. In national energy consultations, Jenna stood out as the sole independent voice challenging Eskom’s proposed new market structures – identifying material risks to investor confidence and recommending licence conditions for Eskom’s Market Operator licence application to safeguard private-sector participation in South Africa’s electricity reforms. She continues to contribute to the developing design and control of the new market structure, advocating for market-enabling tariff structures and policies that promote both competition and investment stability.
