Dr Markus Schulte

Dr Markus Schulte is the Deputy Head of the European Investment Bank’s (EIB) Regional Office for Southern Africa and the Indian Ocean, based in Pretoria. He oversees a wide range of operations, with a particular focus on climate action, energy and sustainable transport. Markus holds a doctorate in development finance and has extensive experience with both private and public sector projects, including structuring sovereign and sub-sovereign investments, blending EU funds with EIB loans and working closely with governments, DFIs and financial intermediaries to accelerate the green transition across the continent in line with the EU’s Global Gateway strategy.
